Public Servants' Survival Webinar

*Discontinued After January 31, 2023*

The job of a Clerk has always been stressful, but 2020 has written an entirely new chapter in all of our lives. It can be overwhelming and definitely challenging to remain energized about work.

There’s never been a better time for a survival guide! We can’t afford dedicated and talented public servants to surrender to the stress. This interactive workshop will walk you through ten checkpoints that can signal burnout.

Video clips, true-life examples from the municipal world, audience participation, and actionable takeaways make this session powerful as well as personal to Clerks. Polls and Q&A will make this virtual event both interactive and engaging.

Content is derived from the 2020 #1 New Release in Government Management on Amazon, The Public Servants’ Survival Guide.

Each participant will download a grading sheet prior to the session, which will enable them to self-assess their success (or failure) at the ten checkpoints.

Takeaways will include:

  • How to collaborate (instead of being a lone ranger)
  • Sidestepping drama while remaining responsive to constituents
  • Incorporating humor to lighten your load
  • Assessing your inner circle: Are energy vampires bringing you down?
  • Ways we sabotage our joy in work (and life)
  • The importance of reflection, evaluation, and self-care

About the Speaker

Brenda Viola's work as an award-winning Public Information Officer for a first-ring suburb of Philadelphia birthed the inspiration for her Municipal Education courses and the launch of ME Seminars.

Previous clients include the American Library Association (ALA), American Public Works Association (APWA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).

Her messages are powerful because they have been developed in the trenches, working side by side with dedicated librarians, clerks, public works, parks and recreation and many other local government professionals.

A former news anchor and reporter, she chuckles that the most interest surrounding her resume is her brief stint as a QVC Show Host when that channel launched.

What is the "Why?" behind her current work? "Nothing makes me happier than to see the spark return in the eyes of a dedicated employee. I know the difference encouragement can make.  And I consider it a privilege to serve those who so selflessly serve our communities with excellence."

For several years, an outlet for this desire to encourage others has been her inspirational blog or her 10,000+ member Facebook community (@BrendaViola722).

A Philadelphia-area native, she currently resides in Sarasota, Florida, and enjoys year-round sunshine, a close-knit community of good friends, and relishes down-time to enjoy a good book or the latest airing of This Is Us. She is a member of the National Speakers Association (NSA) and is involved with Rotary International and Toastmasters.
